Dragon Gate
Dragon Gate is a top-down platformer following a koi carp scaling the Yellow River. Our inspiration is taken from Chinese tradition where silver carp swim upstream and then leap the falls of the Yellow River at the Dragon Gate. They would then be transformed into a dragon after leaping into the sky.
My Involvement
This game was created for Jamfuser 2020 and was developed within 72 hours by a team of 6 game design students, in which I played the role of lead designer. Due to having experience with Global Game Jams, I knew that this game could have more potential than the bare minimum side-scroller. So we came up with this concept to challenge the theme 'Leap'.

Level Design
Initial, hand-drawn design:
Digitalising/greyboxing:
Polishing and Implementing:
I created the level designs initially using graph paper. Luckily we got to implement all 6 level designs within the 72 hour jam, and on the day of submission, I bug tested the game until it was ready to be entered. We created our game to be initially released on mobile, so the level designs are long and narrow to fit a phone screen. After drawing up these designs the artist and I both took the assets and started digitalising the levels. We did this in photoshop and had several versions of each greyboxed level. Finally, the artist added in the assets for the final level, and another team member put in all of the environmental blockers and hazards onto the game file. I polished the game by adding screen overlays and UI elements.
The game can be downloaded for both pc and mobile here.
