The Observant.

On your own in the dark. Just trying to get from A to B. The hush of night is almost deafening. The sensation of being followed persistently lurks in the back of your mind. A quiet snap in the distance booms like a hollow drum. Is anyone there? All you can do is stay on the path ahead and try not to look behind.

Video Pitch

My Involvement

The Observant is a first-person virtual reality experience that articulates the sensation of an anxious midnight commute. This Android VR game is easily accessible by using a Google cardboard VR headset. The intention was to make the game accessible to a wide range of people who might not be able to afford a game console or an expensive VR headset but own a phone. This was a solo project for my final major project at Brunel University London.

Level Design

OBSERVANT MAP.png

This is the level design for The Observant. The player will have 7 different crossroads, and some paths will have unsettling areas branching off to the side of them, such as a campsite, a white van, and an abandoned house win the woods. On the map, there are also environmental cues that trigger a text from Meghan or trigger a decision. 5 Phone booths can be found throughout the game. Once a path has been chosen, the other path gets closed off, which is ideal for the incentive of replayability.
